Recycling Xmas Tree Creation Competition

Leo District 308 B2 Leo Cabinet had successfully inititated Go Green Project in Penang last Saturday at Penang Times Square. This was our 1st project after our formation night. What was this Go Green Project about? All participants were required to use recycleable items like Old Newspapers, Magazines, Aluminium Cans etc to produce a Xmas Tree in a given time.

First of all, on behalf of the Leo District, I need to thank DiGi Telecommunication for once again supported Leo Club for this meaningful project. They sponsored Goodies Bags as well as allowing us to use thier road show compound to carry out this project. Next credit must go to District Leo Secretary DS Chee Keat for co-ordinating the whole competition. The rest: Lions and Leos, thanks for your support from far and near. Not only the participating Leos were requested to produce the xmas tree, we the Leo Cabinet Officers (Myself, DS Chee Keat, LDC Foona and Raymond) were also requested to make one too. See the above picture, that's the one we made but we did not compete one ok :) If we did, then the champion sure will go to us :) Oh ya, one thing that I need to mentioned is that I had delivered my 1st ever DVP speech in this project.

After years of waiting and months of preparing, finally the Leo District 308 B2 is now officially formed on 19 December 2009 in Herritage Hotel, Ipoh. The day marks another historical moment in Lions Clubs International District 308 B2, Malaysia. The 1st ever Leo District 308 B2 is led by DP Eliza Chia from Leo Club of Ipoh Unity. To align with Lions Cabinet, the Leo District Officers are therefore named as Leo Cabinet Officers instead of Leo Council Officers which is used around the world.

VDP1 Ch'ng Kok Sheng

AS one of the omega Leo Clubs in District 308 B2, Leo Club of Penang (City) has endorsed Fiona Lee and myself to represent the club in the Leo District. Later, I have been appointed by Leo District as 1st District Vice President (DVP1) whereas Fiona as District Leo Chairperson for Community Service and Fellowship (DLC). This will be a new chapter of my leo jouney serve as Leo District Officers.

DLC for Community Service & Fellowship Fiona Lee

This will be a nightmare begins in my life. Before the formation, I was looking forward to this day but after gone through a few months of preparation the answer is no. What I can say is there are people who accept and giving their full support to a new thing but still there will be a certain number of people who resist. Whatever it is, I will play it by ear. Hopefully, you will know what is suppose to do and what is not.......... Once again, congratulation to District 308 B2!

Happy Dong Zhi 2009

Dong Zhi Kuai Le!!! I'm not going to explain what is Dong Zhi but always remember is Dong Zhi not Tong Zhi will do. AS usual, my mum will have her very own Tang Yuan. Is round and "Q". She only goes for Red, White and Orange Colours rather than colourful Tang Yuan. She is the one who say NO to artificial colors. She only used 2 colors just to make those Tang Yuan looks much better and nicer. Taken these 2 pictures in the early morning before heading to office. She was preparing 1 box for me to bring to office and for prayer too. I tweet these 2 photos in the early morning too.

By the way, Dong Zhi is also known as "The Winter Festival", is the last celebration in a year before the arrival of Lunar New Year. Dong Zhi usually falls on the 21st or 22nd of December, it is also the shortest day of the year, for those in countries with 4 seasons. It symbolises the cold winter will be coming to an end soon then the beginning of a new spring. Like Christmas, this is the season to celebrate home-coming.

Then what is Tang Yuan? (extracted fr. this link)
'Tang' means 'soup' and 'yuan' means 'round' or 'ball', and the phrase also
share a similar sound with 'reuniting' (tuan yuan). Tang yuan is made of
glutinous rice flour rolled into little balls, and served in either savoury
soup
or sweet pasty soups such as Palm Sugar Tang
Yuan in Syrup
and Tang Yuan
with Ground Peanut in Ginger Syrup
. It is also part of the offering in the
year-end Chinese prayer
ritual
. A lot of Chinese also serve Tang Yuan on the 15th
day
of the Chinese New Year celebration, and call it Yuan Xiao (the same
sound as the celebration itself in Mandarin).

By now, you should understand what is Dong Zhi Festival right? Ok la.. Wishing you have a blessful Dong Zhi, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year 2010!!~~~~~

You may like to see what did I post in last 2 years on this day:)

An hour in Yee Ran Jing Sheh Handicapped Children's Home

RM 1000 cash donation to YRJS
I remember that the last visit to Yee Ran Jing Sheh Handicapped Children's Home was on 01/01/2009, 1st day of new year. Time flies really fast. Another new year is coming soon. This time, we were there to present a donation of RM 1000 and as well as some daily necessities to support the home. A day after yours truly (me) and Fiona being installed as the Leo District Officers, we were pleased to attend and witness our very own club's project. All of us departed from Penang Island to Bukit Mertajam at around 4:30pm.

Kok Sheng and the Kid at YRJS Handicapped Children Association
Member who joined us for the trip were Zhang Hao, Him Keat, Boney, Fiona, Shaw Jhee, Jocelyn, Yun Ni, Wallace, Tict Chyuan, Jameson, Min Xiang, Zhang Ying, myself, and who else? I just name it out from the group photo we had. :) Do tell me if i miss out your name.

Stanley and the Kid at YRJS Handicapped Children Association
Basically, we were there for donation that we raised from Go Green Project. RM 800 was raised from the auction of the winning masterpiece. Our President himself donated RM 200 to make it RM 1000. Thanks and give our President an applaus. I'm not that generous yet as I'm now officialy broke but I did contributed some daily neccesities which I've joined with my colleagues to buy Milo and biscuits for them. Thanks

Fiona and the Kid at YRJS Handicapped Children Association
Personally, I won't be just leaving the home without doing anything meaningful other than donation. To make my trip more interesing and memorable, I've asked the person in charge whether was there anything I can help out or not. She told me nothing but there were just a few of them haven't taken thier dinner. So since we were there, might as well give our helping hands by feeding them dinner. Spent half an hour to interact with them. You will actually feel that you are very very fortunate at that moment. Hope that they are well taken care by the staffs and enjoy! Wishing everyone in that home, good health and all the best!!! Well done LEOS!! Roar~

The whole camp was running smoothly with the participation from 102 children from Penang, Kedah, and Selangor, 35 helpers from CLHS, PCGHS and CDK and 15 committee members. It was a fun, enjoyable and memorable camp to not only the children but the young adults. I knew they have learned a lot thru the camp. Everyone of them including the helpers had become more confident in thier roles and hyperactive. No doubt, they are in learning stage and camp is always the best platform for everyone to grow in the right path. Sometimes, they are just playful and ignore the senior's advise but to me, as long as you know you are learning from mistake and growing to be a better child, then I will be happy enough. :)

This camp was running 3 days 2 nights at SRJK (C) Kheng Tean. I'm the Chairman and Yong Seng from Leo Club of CLHS is the Camp Lead for this year. I've made some changes this year whereby I appointed CLHS Leo to be the camp lead. Traditionally, Camp Lead should be the member from my Friends of Foyi or in other words, not a high school student. The reason is if you had an "older" Camp Lead, everyone will be able to listen to you. But but but, from the begining, I've decided to try something new for the camp by appointing a Form 4 guy to be the camp lead. Although, as expected, there were some issues arose in the camp. No one can listen to him. By the way, I have no regret at all on his appointment. He did great job at his age. He tried his best to perform his duty. I can see from my own eyes from the 1st day until the last day.

The mission of GO GREEN in the camp is successfully accomplished which I personally feel proud of it. We are not using disposable plastic utensils & polystyrene plates/cups. The whole camp is environmental friendly. Garbage Enzyme was used and ECO bags were distributed to all the Children in the camp. The main objective is to create environmental awareness not only to the children but the the parents as well. We encourage the children to use and also always remind thier parents to use ECO bag and say NO to plastic bag. I believe, they are now aware of the important to preserve the environment after this camp as we also have seminar on GO GREEN too. We sincerely hope that, every particiapant starts to use ECO bag and say NO to plastic bag. If everyone of us start practicing this at home, I'm pretty sure Penang or Malaysia will be free from pollution one day. Let's work together to educate the kids and cultivate more and more kids to be ECO friendly! GO GREEN with us now and my resolution as the Friends of Foyi (Youth) Chairman for 2010 is to gather at least 5 to 10 members to form "Foyi Go Green Team" in Chinese I will call it as “佛义绿色环保之友”或“佛义绿色环保队”. :) If you have better name, drop your comment here. I will start working on it in year 2010 for "Friends of Foyi"and going to move GREEN in 2010. Hope it works!

Starbucks Coffee Planner 2010

Starbucks 2010 Planner

YES! Is starbucks time again. After we had taken our lunch at chopper board queensbay mall, I've reminded my colleagues to go Starbucks. The reason behind is I need to collect another 5 stamps before I can redeem the Starbucks Coffee Planner 2010. :) No doubt, I'm lucky today. Why? because my colleague Lee Nee bought us coffee for FOC. 4 of us went to Queensbay Mall for Lunch, and I had collected 4 stamps. So, there is only 1 more to go before I can back with the planner. You know what? One of my colleagues met her friend who was there too. She bought Starbucks Coffee too but she didnt collect the stamps and coincidently I need another 1 stamp! So.... I managed to get myself the planner as early as I though! YES!!

Starbucks 2010 Planner
(Jo, u see hong hong always be with me all the time!)

Tang~ Tang~ I got the planner lo!!! Fiona, my turn to show off! Finally, I managed to redeem the planner with the help of my colleagues. 11 stamps for 1 starbucks coffee's planner (worth RM 50). Nice or not? If you ask me what so special about this planner, I've no idea. I just like it when I first collected the chop chop! Once again, thanks so much for everyone's help. :) This is my early FOC xmas gift. Merry Xmas to all of you! So what will do during Xmas Eve? Tell me here~~

Foyi Children Camp 2009 DONE!

Finally, it has come to a full stop. The 3 days 2 night Annual Foyi Children Camp has been successfully carried out. I'm so freaking tired and had body ache since last night. Not able to work comfortably in the office today too. Sleepy for sure I have but the most "painful" one is body ache. Although certain things I really disapponted and dissatisfy but at least my initial plan and my idea for the camp has gone on smoothly and being reported in the 2 press release above. Do you know what is that? Yup, is GO GREEN. I'm glad that my 1st attempt to have "green" camp was running good as I expected. From the moment that the reportors requested me to find children and helpers to go to the washing area for photo shoot, I already started to tell myself :YES, I DID IT. I was really happy at that time because I had successfully draw the attention of reporters with the ENZYME dish washing. Furthermore the whole camp is environmental friendly. NO disposable plastic utensils & polystyrene plates/cups were used!

(The Committee Members- No Kenny, Her Feng, Jesyca, and Peng Sheng)

(The helpers and Committees)

Ok...I don't have all helpers contact number. Therefore, please allow me to extend my sincere appreciation to all 33 helpers that who had been taken good care of the kids during this 3 days 2 nights Foyi Children Camp at SRJK(C) Kheng Tean. Most of them were Leo Club Members from the Co-Organizer Leo Club of Chung Ling High School, Union High School, PCGHS, Penang (City) and of course our own Friend of Foyi (Foyi Youth). You had sleepless night but think again what did you gain and I'm sure you will miss it very much. Ya, one more is I need to praise myself. The reason is, I didnt scold as much as I did in 3 years back when I was the Camp Lead. I had been tolerate with all of my committee members since the 1st day I called the meeting. That's why all the playful, naughty and disobedient helpers didnt get scolded much from me as I know how to control my temper. But...Don't step too hard on my tail ... I will expose too. What I can say is, you are so lucky to have a very kind and soft hearted Camp Lead :) I mean Yong Seng. If I were the Camp Lead.....hahaha...den... you will know :) Anyway, as I said in my closing speech, all of you are perfect. I didnt require all of you to be 100% perfect. Those who know me, I just want everyone of you to LEARN and GROW. Know your mistake and imporve it will do. Frankly, I dislike people who disobey my words but what to do if you choose not to listen. Ok la.. at least I know you guys enjoy and had fun in the camp and the most important thing is Yong Seng had learned a alot. Once again, Thank you very much to all of you! without your helping hands, I'm sure the camp will not be success. Wait my sms these few days :)
(Special thanks to HK and PS who were the van drivers helping me to transfer all the goods/ items to Kheng Tean and Back Foyi and of course not to forget my supportive Foyi mates who be the last group to leave)

Foyi Children Camp is ON

The annual Foyi Children Camp is now ON. I will be away from computer for the next 4 days (inclduign today). This year is my 4th year participating in the camp as one of the committees. The very 1st year I joined the camp as Camp Lead and that year was also my 1st year joining Foyi. At that time, I felt great as the number of participants hit 144. It was a very good response in the record. Thsi year, although it may not as perfect as 1st year due to several issue especially H1N1. But thanks Buddha for blessing me always, the number of participants is now over 100!!! I know it is not easy to take care of the children but I do hope that Buddha hears my prayer. I have a lot of concerns but hopefully everything is on the right track. Oh ya, I am the organizing chairman for the camp this year and also serving as the Organizer Chairman-Foyi Youth (FOF) for the 1st year after replacing my Senior for this position. Again and Again, may buddha bless the whole camp for the next few days. Special thanks to our official designer for the camp, http://bearlim.blogspot.com/ for the above 2 design: Logo Design as well as Banner Design!! I'm glad to have you always for the camp. Amitaba!
